Macaron Laboratory Updates

Sweet Success: Macaron Laboratory Wraps Up the 2023-2024 Academic Year!

8/30/2024

As summer comes to a close and a new school year begins, Macaron Laboratory wants to extend our warmest greetings and share some exciting news about our community impact! We’re incredibly proud to announce that, thanks to your amazing support, we’ve reached 5 million yen in facilitated donations and 13,834 macarons baked to date.

Here’s how we made a difference this past academic year.
⭐️ Built a library for a single family home and hosted a Halloween party for the kids.
⭐️ Sponsored a Fall Festival at a children’s home, bringing smiles and laughter to all.
⭐️ Gifted 100 personalized Christmas presents to the kids at Seibi Homes and sponsored a Christmas party.
⭐️ Encouraged kids to play sports by providing basketball shoes and equipment for a basketball camp.
⭐️ Donated over 600,000 yen to support victims of the Noto earthquake through the organization Peacewinds (www.peacewinds.org), who was one of the first responders in the area.
⭐️ Sent care packages filled with games and sports equipment to children’s homes affected by Noto earthquake.
⭐️ Celebrated Mother’s Day by sending gifts to mothers at single family homes.
⭐️ Hosted a Valentine’s Day party for the kids at Seibi Homes.
⭐️ Sent school supplies to over 40 kids living in children’s homes at the start of the Japanese school year.
⭐️ Delivered candies and macarons to a local children’s home in celebration of Children’s day.
⭐️ Sponsored a summer kick off party for kids at a children’s home.
⭐️ Donated 50,000 yen to TELL, an organization in Japan that support mental health initiatives.
⭐️Donated over 500 Japanese books and summer workbooks to kids at children’s homes.

None of this would have been possible without the partnership of our incredible community!  Thank you for your continued support and for helping us make a difference. Here’s to another year of spreading sweetness and making a positive impact together, one macaron at a time.
Fun Fact: Did you know that those 13,834 macarons represent about 2,075 eggs, 70 kg of almond flour, 70 kg of sugar, and 120 kg of icing sugar? That’s a whole lot of love baked in!

Peace Winds Visit

5/6/2024

In February, we visited the @peacewindsjapan headquarters to learn more in depth about how they were supporting the recovery efforts in Noto after the 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck New Year's Day. When visiting this facility, we got to see the behind the scenes of how a non-profit organization operates in a time of crisis. Ms. Nakahashi shared a powerful slideshow that showcased the positive impact Peace Winds was making in the Noto peninsula and surrounding areas. We also had the opportunity to ask questions to a first responder and hear first hand about the situation and relief efforts on the ground. This experience was extremely impactful and the Macaron Laboratory team is grateful for this experience. Thank you so much Peace Winds for inviting us!

Noto Peninsula Earthquake Support

1/23/2024

Before we had the chance to wish everyone a Happy New Year,  Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan was hit by a 7.5 magnitude earthquake and tsunami on January  1st.  The natural disaster hit the western coast of Japan, on the Noto Peninsula which is a rural region known for its good food, good sake and famous for many traditional arts and crafts.  As the days of New Year’s holidays went on, we began to see all of the physical and emotional damage occurring in Ishikawa.

With the help of our community, Macaron Laboratory is raising awareness and together with the community are facilitating donations to Peace Winds (www.peace-winds.org) Peace Winds, a NGO was very quick to respond to the needs of the victims in the area, by dispatching rescue teams and medical staff.

Abby, our baker has made over 500 delicious Matcha Buttercream with Gold Leaf in support of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
With the support of the community both in Japan and the US, over 400,000 yen in donations have been made to date.

We will also be putting together 40 care packages for an orphanage in the region.  We will be sending items that they need and also treat bags, in hopes to bring some smiles to the children during this very difficult time. We will continue to find ways  to help the victims of the Noto Peninsula Earthquake.

Thank you to everyone who has kindly donated to the project.

Santa's Wishlist!

December 2023

It's the season of giving! Thank you to everyone who helped with our holiday project.

Macaron Laboratory has fulfilled the Christmas wishes of kids at Seibi Tokyo Children’s Home.  Everyone asked for a specific gift and with that, Peppermint Bark macarons were made and delivered which made it possible to purchase gifts, many people helped to fulfill our Amazon Wish list and volunteers came together to wrap and label all the gifts.

We are happy to announce that we will be delivering over 100 gifts to Seibi Homes and another single family home just in time for Christmas. Thank you to the community near and far who helped to make this project a success. We could not have done it without everyone’s contributions.

Macaron Laboratory wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season filled with happiness and laughter.  Happy Holidays and a warm greeting for the New Year!

Universal Kids

1/23/2024

November 2023

Abby visited Universal Kids last month (https://universalkids.jp) where she presented to kids from the age of 7-10 about Macaron Laboratory, who we are, what we stand for and the importance of community service. We had the opportunity to reach out to over 200 kids and their families about our activities and the charities that we have supported. Before this presentation, the students voted on the macaron favors they would like to receive and studied were asked to study about Macaron Laboratory. In exchange for macarons, the kids helped us with our current project for a single family home in Adachi-ku and our Halloween candy bag project. Each class came by to drop off donations (candy and Japanese books) and in return, they received macarons. 60 teachers and staff also donated to the project.  Abby said, “I am so grateful to be able to share our story and hope the kids were inspired to give back.“  It was a day of mutual learning, collaboration and community service.

Thank you to Universal Kids for this amazing experience. Together we were able to collect over 100 Japanese books and create over 220 candy bags for kids in single family homes and children’s homes in Tokyo!

Library Project

1/23/2024

October 2023
Macaron Laboratory in collaboration with Cornerstone helped build a library and hosted a Halloween party in a single family home in Adachi Ku, Tokyo last month.

We started this project well in advance and began with meetings to understand the objectives, planned our tasks and executed a plan on the day of our visit to the home.

We began by raising awareness of our project via our Instagram account and gathering donations of books and products via an amazon wishlist. Not only did we receive product donations, we raised about 100,000 yen via our macarons and purchased furniture and other materials we needed for the library and Halloween party with these funds.

On October 22nd, Macaron Laboratory was busy building shelves, setting up books and preparing food and activities for the party to kick off the new library. The day was filled with a lot of laughter, as approximately 60 kids and parents came by to enjoy the party.   Everyone enjoyed yakisoba and pancakes prepared by the volunteers. The children enjoyed the activities that we prepared such as origami, jewelry making, coloring and games.

Macaron Laboratory also took a tour of the facility and learned about how this particular single family home operates.   We learned about how homes like this are beneficial to families who need a helping hand.  Ultimately, we hope the library and books will bring joy to the children there.

Thank you to everyone for supporting our project and all of the donations. Together, we can make a difference one macaron at a time!

Happy Mother's Day!

1/23/2024

May 2023
Macaron Laboratory wrapped and donated 50 gift packages for mothers in single parent homes (Tokyo area). The gift included a colorful eco bag provided by the NPO, Cloudy Tokyo (Cloudy-Tokyo.com) with Macaron Laboratory who made cards and added to the gift with hair clips, lip gloss, hand creams and nail polish.
The organization Cloudy was established in November 2020 to create education and employment opportunities in Africa.  The beautiful eco bags are a product which was made through their efforts, which they graciously donated to the project.
The packages will be delivered through Cornerstone Ishizue to various homes throughout Tokyo. Cloudy-Tokyo.com
Macaron Laboratory wishes to thank and wish every mother a very Happy Mother's Day!

Recent Projects

1/23/2024

March 2023

Macaron Laboratory has been busy and proactive with many different projects in recent months.

During the holiday season, we were hoping to bring smiles to those less fortunate. We were busy packaging treats for children in single parent homes. We also assembled special care packages for pregnant mothers who were in need of baby supplies.  Another fun and very meaningful project was the "Boutique Project" where we gathered clothing and other useful items from the community and opened a boutique for single parents  to come and select items to take home for their families and themselves.  Macaron Laboratory not only helped run the project but also donated food items for each one of the families residing in the home. It was wonderful to see how appreciative these families were to receive our donations.

Our current focus is donating to Doctors Without Borders to aid survivors of the earthquake that struck Turkey & Syria on Feb 6, 2023. It is sad to see how so many people have been affected by this natural disaster and Doctors Without Borders has been able to aid those in need. We hope others will also consider donating to this great organization.

Our goal at Macaron Laboratory is to look for projects and help in different ways. We have learned so much about the many things that are happening around us and it encourages us to continue to create awareness for giving back to those in need.  We hope that  more people will have the chance to get involved and help to make a difference.
